How much is too much to pay for a wedding photographer in Michigan?
I know photographers costs are all over the board, but I don't know what's reasonable, what's crazy cheap, and what's just completely absurd. I absolutely love pictures and photography, and having a good photographer is extremely important to me, I just need help figuring out what people I should completely disregard due to their pricing, and which I should consider.
For ex. "An 8 hour wedding is $4000, a 5 hour wedding is $3000. That gets me and a 2nd photographer (for groups/portraits/cocktail pics) and a disc of all your photos ready for printing/web. You would own your photos."
Also what I'm asking is... for those of you that have had an amazing photographer... what did you pay?? & what did that include??
There is no "too much" really... Whatever is in your budget is what you should stick to. There are a LOT of photographers out there, so I would ask around, check around and interview some. Check out portfolios in person, not online, to get a true sense of their ability. Think about the style you want: formal portraits, candid shots, photojournalism or a combination? Different photographers specialize in different things.
I live in NJ. We hired a photographer who did both portraits and candid shots. We got an engagement session with unlimited photos and a CD with all rights to print them, all-day (7am to 9pm) wedding day with 2 photographers (one at the brides, one with the groom then they went to the church with us and joined up), unlimited shots (ended up with over 1700 pics - AHHH!), printed 4X6 proofs of all shots, DVD and CD of edited photos for printing with all rights, 3 parent albums (8X10) and one wedding album (40 pages, hardcover with a box). She also gave us a "gift" of 2, 5X7 shots (her favorites) in a wall-mount picture frame, it was awesome! The total cost? $4700. The photos? Priceless.
Good luck!
