beginner photography question?

i'm a beginner photographer and i have been asked to do a wedding and i do not know what to charge them
i've never thought about it and i've researched other prices and it is just outrageously priced i feel for my first time i shouldn't really charge that much i don't have any wedding photography experience

Don't do it. Even if you do it for free, you don't have the skills or knowledge necessary to make the mother of the bride happy. This is a ONE shot deal.

If after you have complete control over your camera and you do want to later shoot weddings, work as an assistant to a professional wedding photographer to not only learn what shots are expected, but how to run a wedding photography business.

The fact that you think weddings are outrageously prices just shows how naive you are. You have to consider the cost of doing business. Those costs include fixed, variable, recurring and capital investments (like a new camera every four to five years as well as new computers every three).

How much do you think it costs to run a wedding photography business and have money left over to run a household? If you shot four weddings a month, do you think that would cover the business expenses AND leave money for raising a family? Probably not. That is why 1) the fee to shoot a wedding ($2,000 to $5,000) does not include photos and 2) wedding photographers also shoot other events during the week.

You don't want to ruin what reputation you have now by blowing a wedding due to your inexperience.

Questions:

Do you have a backup camera?
Do you have the right lenses to cover both the ceremony and reception?
Do you have an adequate flash, diffuser and flash bracket?
Do you have a backup battery?
Do you have enough CF cards?

Just the start of the list of things you need to know, own and understand.

NOTE: If you even think you can "fix" mistakes using the $1,000 Photoshop, Extended; forget about shooting a wedding.
