Do all photographers that get into the business of wedding photography need liabilitity insurance?
It's not mandatory, but it is something that you eventually will want.
It depends on what type of liability you want. Insurance to cover your equipment, or injury? For me I don't have liability insurance for injury. Then again I'm not a person who sets up lots of lights that could hazardly injure someone. However, my equipment is insured by the people I buy it from, so I won't loose out there.
Now if something happens to your photos then that is something you need to worry about as well. I have it in my contract that if something happens to the photos that they cannot take me to court. I will however give them a full refund (which I'm sure any good lawyer probably could get around). However, it highly unlikely that something will happen to all of my photos. I shoot with two cameras, and always with two photographers. I then back up all photos in two places, and never delete the files off my CF card till I'm done editing. It's highly unlikely that four cameras will break, or four cf cards break (plus I have multiple cards per camera). I may be paranoid, but it prevents unlikely issues from happening. I'm not worried about the lawsuit as much as I am worried about loosing future business.
Lastly, there are some venues that require you to have liability insurance to be on their premises. I have two weddings that I will be doing this year that require this, which is in September. So I am waiting till then to get it. It's required if I break something of theirs.
Hill and Usher, and I believe PPA offer liability insurance.
