I need help on my wedding photography!?

I am getting married on december in jamaica and the photographer at the resort is not that great... So I have a friend that takes great photos (shes going to school for photography) and I was thinking of paying her flight and her room witch it's 700 for two nights... My fiance either wants for her to pay herself and when we get back we pay her 1000 that means she gets 300 extra and a free trip or we just go ahead and pay now for her and get a, notarized contract to make sure she goes do you think it's wrong of us to do that? what should be,better?

I learned this the hard way. Don't hire friends to do you favors at weddings. My dad hired his long time photographer friend to shoot our wedding and reception and that guy pretty much ruined our demeanor every time we saw him. His pictures were also not worth the 10% discount he gave my father. My wedding planner was also my long time neighbor's daughter....it was her first wedding. The reception was rough and she made crappy excuses that I would not have accepted from a non-friend professional but had to because she was a friend.

It sounds like she is not a best friend but a close enough friend that putting money between the two of you could affect things. I would say the first option sounds doable. She can pay for herself and then she gets a nice bonus afterwards. It's important that you be clear with her, without the need of a contract, that this being your wedding your hoping for some professionalism. Tell her you wish could have her there as just a guest and you want her to enjoy it as much as everyone but the pictures are what keep the memories alive, so if she says she'll do it you'll say, I hope you don't mind signing this as just a formality since we are exchanging a significant sum of money for your services. Get the best of both worlds when it comes to friends, especially when you're paying them.
