I'm an aspiring film maker, how do I work without a good video camera and equipment? *sigh?
It's called light.
Learn to work with it and you can accomplish just about anything...
Plenty of great movies were made without the benefit of great cameras.
Reflectors, Fluorescent bulbs, Halogen lamps for 40 bucks. Aluminum foil, foam core... Those are all highly effective tools for controlling light that don't cost a lot.
As to video cameras, you should be able to get by with a fairly mediocre cam. Just learn how to control it. If you have smooth and steady shots, you can get a nice professional result, but there IS a place for a bit of camera movement in some types of shots - notably when giving the impression of running or following people.
I can think of plenty of movies that have filmed identical locations with different lighting and the average person would never guess.
See if you can find a rollerblade or two with a broken top at a second hand shop or something. Just make sure the bearings are clean. You only need the two end wheels. You can make a pretty durned decent rolling shot with that and a section of 2x4 and maybe a strip of baseboard or even just a 1/4" wide groove cut down the middle. Your local hardware store probably wouldn't even charge for that. It doesn't need to be perfectly straight, just smooth.
You don't need a lot of cash, just some creativity.
