What pays more in Photography?

I have an extreme passion for Photography. Me, living in a small town in Ohio, in which I do want to stay in Ohio, I am now wondering if I could even get far in the Photography industry. I have a long way to go, I am only 15, but I'm very ambitious and like to have things planned out. I am going to COTC for Photography, not sure if I'm going to major in it, but I would love to. And now I don't know what I want to base my Photography on. Most of my photography is on flowers, and is macro. I love macro, IDK why I just hardly take a picture from far away. Its intimidating for me, I'm trying to work on that. I know I don't think I want to do anything that is taking pictures of people [in a studio, I wouldn't mind weddings, or random shots, or senior pictures, I already do senior pictures] but I'm also wondering, what would pay more? Is it possible to get good money as a Photographer? I don't want a job if I"m not getting payed enough for it. PLEASE help me!. I'm so confused.

Photography is a very competitive field. And now that everybody and their mother (and baby brother) has a pretty good digital camera, the competition is getting worse.

Plus, even in good times photography is not a particularly high paying type of job (unless you become one of those rare superstars like Annie Liebovitz or Richard Avedon).

Perhaps the best thing for you to do so you can get unwrapped from around the axle and stress you're psyching yourself into is to take an introductory photography class. It will be a good way to learn the technical basics and you'll be given assignments to shoot different types of subjects. That way you'll see what you enjoy doing most and what you have the most talent for.

I'd suggest telling your teacher that you're considering a possible career in photography and to be honest with you (constructively honest) about whether you have the kind of "eye" and unique vision that could be cultivated into a successful pro.

If you do go the photography professional route, pls. also consider taking a few key business classes (like marketing and accounting) so you can successfully promote your business and keep a good handle on what you're earning.

Relax. Have fun with your photog - that's what is key. And do some of the discipline suggestions above to figure out if this is a path for you. Good luck!
