How much should I charge for photography?
I am just starting out doing photography as a side business. I am NOT a professional, however I feel i do GREAT work, and have been told that by many people. I have already set up some shoots to build my portfolio, but was wondering what I should charge for my first wedding shoot. any ideas?
For the first wedding that I shot I charged $200 but it was for some friends. I had a lot of experience as a portrait photographer before that and had done 2 weddings as a second shooter. Once you get more business, slowly increase your rates and find out what other photographers in your area are charging. You obviously can't charge a couple thousand like most pros but you should get up there with time. Go to craigslist.com and see what photographers in your city are charging. Also, if you plan on doing any advertising on site like google, yahoo, yellow pages, dex, see what photographers are charging there. Feel free to take a look at my work and my rates if it helps.
