Lenses suggestions?
I am in the market for a digital SLR. I'm looking at the Canon XTI and the Sony A200 (let me just add my husband gets a discount on Sony). I had a 35mm Canon EOS for years. I have a little photography background and have been working with Photoshop for several years. I am mainly concerned about lenses. I don't have much knowledge there. I plan on enrolling in New York institute of photography and eventually shadowing a professional. In a few years I would like to use this camera as a backup camera and hope to buy more accessories during that time. What lenses are best for wedding photography? Are name brand lenses really better than say... sigma? I want to start out with a good all around lenses and I have heard that usually the lenses that comes with the camera are not that great. Some guidance would be great. Thank you for taking the time to answer.
If you already have a Canon EOS, the lenses will work on the Canon EOS DSLR cameras... you may want to look at the XTi and the XSi as well as the 40D ...
Some of the Sigma, Tamron and Tokina lenses are quite good. Just make sure to read the technical reviews and the users reviews of the lenses in question, you can gain valuable insights. The "L" series of Canon lenses is their top quality, followed by the lenses with IS (Image Stability).
The XSi and the 40D both come with excellent Canon lenses, the XTi comes with a standard kit lens, which is actually better than many say, it's a little slow, but if you use a tripod, you can work around that.
The Sony will take the older Minolta lenses, but I'm not overly fond of the Sony cameras, and I don't believe their glass is as good as the Canon glass.
