What to look for in a macro lens?
I took up photography as a hobby earlier this year and have been enjoying learning my camera (Canon EOS Rebel XS) and techniques. I have been practicing with product photography since my dad makes knives and asks me to take photos of them sometimes when he doesn't have time to send them away to his usual photographer. Most of the time he wants me to get the small engraving details of the knives. I just have my kit lens and can usually get the details that he wants, after moving around to different lighting and locations and experimenting different settings. I have been looking into a Macro lens for this purpose. What are key things I should look for in a quality macro lens? I am not concerned about price right now, just curious of what to look for.

For your use, i think you might be better off using a close up filter like the Raynox-150 or 250...
