Samsung UN46D8000 -Excellant Item, Exceeds All My Expectations
I want to give this Samsung UN46D8000 46-Inch a glowing analyze; after all, it has some of your latest LED technology, and the model is trend setting. After a week using this type of Samsung UN46D8000 46-Inch, I am less than enthusiastic about the 'Samsung Experience'. Let me have this off my chest first. Did you ever drop by an event, like a county fair, early, when not all the voyages and attractions were open? You're excited because it looks like it's rather a lot of fun, but it's just a little too early for the full experience. Well, that's the way I experience this Samsung UN46D8000. First of all, the 3d glasses that happen to be supposed to ship with this Samsung UN46D8000 cant be found in the box. Instead, there is usually a voucher you may mail in, or web to order (which I did). Looking for week and no response, I called to see why the delay. I was told to read simple things the voucher's fine print, which said there was clearly a 10-12 week wait for your glasses. Not good. Secondly, I found a worry with the remote control unit, that is certainly not a fun thing to have into your hand. It is sort of brief and stubby, with two sides. One side includes a QWERTY keyboard for text entry, including a touch-sensitive pointer. I find that your up, down, right, left controls will not work correctly with my unit, together with called support to report this. They seemed very focused on the matter and told me on many occasions they'd call back in 45 minutes (after they setup a testing unit) for further facts. There was no call back. Another reviewer mentioned the particular issue in pairing the remote with the television, via Bluetooth. I also found this as being a problem and not consistently easy to try and do.

Samsung has incorporated a feature called Smart Hub on their 'Smart TV'. This is a portal with Netflix, Vimeo, YouTube, Facebook, Pandora, a browser, and several games and applications which were either free or paid for. The feature is nice and I await seeing it develop. You need to join up your TV and create an account, similar to an Apple ID, which causes the area purchase any of the apps. You'll think you could do this belonging to the TV, but you can't; you need to go online to begin this. Not a big deal, but ıt had been confusing. The Samsung website is possibly not ready for prime time either. The community forum is not yet running. One nice thing will be Live Help, which works VERY good. However, I was not able to locate the level of help I needed.
O . k, enough with the gripes. This is certainly one fine TV. It is incredibly light, has a narrow profile and comes with a nice, chrome-plated stand that lets you to definitely rotate the TV about 30 degrees in either direction. A big factor for me was the thin bezel, which allowed me and fit a 46" set into my 43" extensive cabinet. The TV has plenty involving inputs, including some strange connectors that enable you to to connect component and composite videos. I do have a non-HDMI FILM that uses the component connectors, and yes it worked well. The setup of the TV is not difficult if you have had some experience with hookups, and I surely could get all the components and my receiver working quickly. As I mentioned above, I am no big fan of the shape from the remote, and I am trying to duplicate most of the functionality in my Harmony universal remote control.
One thing I did was connect my TV to my iMac to demonstrate photos to my photo club. I weren't expecting the quality to be much better than my 27" iMac, but it was Greater. The color was most natural through Movie mode, Warm 1 setting. The actual sharpness was uncanny. I saw no obtrusive artifacts about the screen and was pleased as punch with the jaw-dropping quality of my photo pics (and so were the club members). The Samsung UN46D8000 is connected to our UVERSE product, and the HD quality is excellent. I have no measurement or calibration devices, but I have a fine eyes for photography. The color balance, difference, and sharpness are excellent. The only thing I need to control is the 'Film mode', which is capable of turning watching Modern Family into a peculiar experience; it almost makes some programs resemble they were videotaped like a detergent opera. I leave this feature 'off' for now. Tonite we watched the 10 Commandments (1956), and also quality was incredible! I have yet to observe any Blue Ray DVDs, as I haven't purchased a new player yet. And, of course, I will not have the glasses for 3D. I do arrange to update my review as these details change.
This TV merits at the very least a 4-star rating. I may add another dependent on how things develop.
Update 6/8/2011
Finally received my 3d glasses through the 'Samsung Fulfillment Center'. They are active-shutter type glasses and have standard USB cords to charge these. You can plug the cords throughout the back of the set and the glasses will recharge as soon as set is ON. We watched our first 3D movie together yesterday. The 3d effect was excellent and I was able to see no artifacts. The glasses compliment over my lenses and were relaxing. They turn on automatically when these sense a 3d broadcast, which is usually nice.
The chunky remote usually just sits waiting that they are used, as I have programmed a Harmony Universal remote to i want to use SmartHub and control most of your functions. SmartHub is still evolving and there are numerous update messages that indicate it is upgraded. I do enjoy the Vimeo and additionally Vudu sites, as well as Netflix. That gamed, browser and other 'apps' are usually not appealing to me yet.
I will begin to laud the picture quality on this unique set. I can't say it provides great improvements over a Sony or Panasonic or additional brand, but I have no reason to get a further. I can only describe the HD quality as 'rich' and overflowing with tonality. The shadow detail amazes me, and the blacks are truly dark. I never find the the picture that should be overly contrasty or saturated. I also find no reason to fiddle considering the controls, once they are set. After with a month of viewing, I still find myself saying 'that's remarkable' when i watch high quality broadcasts. Again, Make the most of ATT Uverse as my cable provider, and our signal quality is very good. I don't expect to buy another TV with this caliber for a good long instance, and feel confident that this Samsung will grow with us for a considerably long time.
