Do you find Flickr useful- a few questions?

I used to enjoy browsing Flickr before it was affiliated with Yahoo, and haven't really checked it out since.

I am wondering if it's a good place to get feedback and help for an amateur photographer, tips for the technologically-impaired (I don't understand my camera), or if it's just another Yahoo playground.

Also, I have over 2,000 photos to upload to a new account. I would like to make some viewable, and keep some private (pics of my kids and family). Is that an option, or would I need separate accounts.

Anything you would like to tell me about the pros and cons of flickr would be much appreciated, as well as suggestions for photography sites besides flickr.

I use photobucket, I prefer it to flickr, but am not an expert in either. If you want my help regarding photography, feel free to email me. I am not a professional be any means, but it is a passion of mine and I flirted with doing stock photography a few years ago. But then he never called back....
