Digital SLR Photography Work Book for Beginner?

I just purchased a Canon EOS 50D and I'm new to digital photography. While I can take great pics in the auto mode I'd like to explore the manual model and get creative. I've got all the Canon 50D books and I'm familiar with the camera. Now I need a sort of workbook that illustrates different projects or shooting sessions that I can use different camera options under different conditions. I'd like the book to be more like a workbook that starts out with easy projects to more advanced. Many thanks!

Photographer and author David Busch writes Guides for just about all DSLRs. http://www.dbusch.com

"Digital SLR Handbook" by John Freeman will also help.

"Understanding Exposure" and "Understanding Shutter Speed", both by Bryan Peterson are also worth reading.

"Exposure Photo Workshop" by Jeff Wignall. This book has assignments at the end of each chapter and you can upload your pictures to a website to get input from others on how you did.
