New York Wedding Photography- do I own the copyright?
I hired a photographer in Westchester and now that I got my photos- they are all watermarked! Don't I own the copyright? He wants me to print him only through him and charge me what seems like an incredible cost of $5 per 5 x 7 print? Can't I insist that I get them without his logo and print them where I like?
Copyright belongs to the photographer (or the company he works for). unless specifically assigned to someone else.
You can certainly ask - you cannot insist - that he removes the logo and signs over copyright or assigns a license for you to use/print the shots elsewhere.
He is perfectly within his rights to refuse or alternatively charge you a LOT of money to assign copyright/usage license.
What you paid for was his services and any prints agreed within the "package". If you want further prints then you get them from the photographer.
