What are my chances of getting into San Diego State University?
Early college search. I'm a sophomore in a New Jersey high school. I had a 2.6 GPA in freshman year, but I am bringing my grades up tremendously and I'm bound to get into Spanish III Honors. I am a wide receiver and linebacker on the football team, and a sprinter on the track team (and I'm also considering doing long jump this year). For electives, I am mostly involved in arts. I did introduction to art freshman year, multimedia this year, and planning to take photography next year. I also take classes at Parsons School of Design during the summer for digital video and photography, and I will also volunteer at a local hospital over the summer.
So do I have a long way to go to meet the minimum requirements or am I headed in the right direction?
My best advice to you is to contact someone from admissions for the university and find out what they like to see. I did that when I was looking to attend college back in high school, because I had a bad first two years. I spoke to the admissions board at the university and they helped me understand their requirements, and I was able to get in. They like to see people who are engaged and inquisitive, and students who are willing to do the work required to get in. Also, SDSU has an acceptance rate which hovers at around 40%, and that is not because of the caliber of the institution, but because of the sheer number of applications each year. You may very well be in the mix against all those other applicants, based on pure volume. As long as your grades and extra curricular involvement fall somewhere in the top 40% of their applicants, you should have no problem.
