Why You Need A Model Release Form

The model release form why as a photographer you need to use one.

A model release form is a legitimate document that the photographer gets the model or person posing in front of the camera to sign. In order to receive consent to use the pictures taken on the day publicly. This is one of the initial things regularly over looked and one of the most essential pieces of documents for a photographer.

You need to have a signed model release form when you will be using the images for monetary gain, commercial purposes and advertising. If you know the model or person posing and have a verbal agreement and understanding this is fine, but not if you have a falling out or the person doesn't like the images. Or they become famous and don't want you to use them. So it is most definitely a must have item.

If the photo shoot was done on a tfp (time for print) or tfcd (time for cd) basis it is even more essential. Time for print and cd means the person poses or models in exchange for a cd or prints of selected images. The photographer gets experience but most importantly usage of the photo's for public display and advertising.

• The photographer owns the copyright, moral rights and all other intellectual property rights to all images.
• Model may use the photo's for the purposes related to the promotion of model's self and modelling business. This consists of but is not restricted to advertising contests and promotional websites.
• When the photo's are presented in public the photographer must be identified and credited accordingly. This includes publishing in magazines, print, or on line.
