Photography Tips and tricks for a beginner?
HI ![]()
Im a 20 year old college student who recently in the past year has really been getting into photography. I really enjoy it. Im no where close to being a professional nor do I want to be. Im just a beginner and its just a hobby, something Im interested in. But I still love learning new things and developing my skills. So any tips or constructive criticism is wanted.
I use two cameras
a Canon Rebel EOS Xt dslr Ive been using for 3 months
and a Yashica Electro Tl slr Ive been using for 1 month. Im still learning alot with this one.

Thanks Trooper but I already do/did that. And I was really looking for some critique if you read the question.
1. Shoot from an interesting angle. This rule can be broken sometimes, certain pictures look good taken straight on.
2. Have about 80% of the photo be your point of interest, or POI, and 20% be empty space. Give or take a few percents.
3. If you shoot a landscape portrait, make sure the horizon line is NOT in the middle. That looks boring. If the sky is nice, get more sky and crop out the land. If the land is more interesting, focus more on the land and crop out some of the sky.
4. Flash that comes with most digital cameras only travels 4 feet. After that, everything is black, unless you have a huge flash attachment.
5. Play with shutter speeds. Have the camera set on a shorter shutter speed (the lens opens and closes quickly) and take a picture of running water. You'll see all the little droplets. Having the camera set on a longer shutter speed (so the lens stays open longer), however, will make the running water look like cotton candy.
6. If you shoot a portrait of a person, get them from either the waist up (because everyone knows they have legs and feet and toes), or incorporate their whole body into it in an interesting way. Have them crouch on the floor or something of the sort.
7. Have fun with it
Photography is all about being creative and showing everyone your perspective of the world.
8. Bring your camera with you everywhere, even if you think you won't need it. You never know when you might find something to shoot.
