high speed photography- help!?
i have seen on the websites that it says a lot about a flash trigger or/and sound trigger is needed for high speed photography.. i have a Finepix Fujifilm s1500 with flash and 12X zoom. Would this work alone for high speed photography as i have no budget and a short time space.. left my AS level project quite late as i didn't know what to do. Is there any way i can just use my camera for the shots or is it essential to have the triggers? thanks x
For this type of work, you can leave the shutter on the camera open for as long as your want. Possibly even several seconds because you shoot them in a completely dark room.
The important thing is having a very short flash duration. Most on camera flashes are to slow, and there are very few speedlights or studio strobes that produce a short enough flash duration for this effect. There are a few like the Eleincron Ranger S, and some Broncolor studio models. All of them are going to be several thousand dollars.
You will also need a photo trigger. For extreme high speed shots, these are very expensive.
I am not sure what you mean by high speed, but if you are talking about shots of breaking light bulbs and that kind of thing, it is not really considered high speed. You can accomplish this with most quality speedlight flashes. You might still want to get a radio control unit like a Pocket Wizard so that you can trigger multiple flashes as the same time.
