How to make your own t-shirts using orginal work?

How would one go about producing their own original t-shirts using original photography, and drawings? I want to make shirts that are good enough to sell online, at the local street fair, and maybe pitch them to the local (mom and pop, not Hot Topic) "alternative" outfitters. I already have my material and concepts ready.

you can just take your design to any T-shirt printing shop and have them produce the shirts for you - expect to have to buy at least a gross (144) to get a low enough price that you MIGHT be able to resell them for a profit, but then you have to go and sell them yourself or go to stores and try to sell them a dozen at a time at wholesales prices, where you might only a buck or two per shirt

the retail store has to be able to make a profit and there is no guarantee anyone will like your designs and people will only pay so much at retail for a T-Shirt
