Quickest way to become a teacher in Uk?

I have 12 gcse's and an a level in photography. I had a year out to go to australia during college and now I'mback. I want to become a teacher in a secondary school or college, and want to get there as quick as possible. What qualifications do i need to teach in the Uk? Really don't want to go to university because I can't afford it. help!!

You need at least a C at GCSE in English, maths and sciences( for primary) a language also helps. You might need more A levels to get into a university.

You need a degree (if secondary, in the subject you want to teach, but if not you can do extra training in that subject).

If you haven't a degree then you need get one or you can do a teaching degree by applying to a university that offers initial teacher training (ITT). Undergraduate ITT courses involve 24 weeks of school-based training (32 weeks for four-year courses). At the end, you will have a BEd, BA or BSc with QTS.

If you have a degree already

Then you do ITT (initial teacher training)
1) The Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP) allows schools to employ graduates and work out an individual training programme for them, leading to qualified teacher status (QTS). You are paid while you train. Look in local, national and education-specific newspapers for untrained teacher posts. Competition for these places is stiff.

2)School-centred initial teacher training (SCITT) is a programme for graduates, run by and based in schools. All SCITT courses lead to qualified teacher status and many, but not all, award the postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE).

3)University based (PGCE - postgraduate certificate in education). The ITT course takes about a year and includes 18 weeks in a school for trainees wanting to teach at primary level, or 24 weeks for those wanting to teach at secondary level. At the end of the course, assuming you meet the standards, you will be awarded qualified teacher status (QTS) and become a newly qualified teacher (NQT) ready to undertake your induction year.
1)

This can be done full time or part time.

I hope this helps. You can find out more informations at: http://www.tda.gov.uk/get-into-teaching.aspx

ALSO GET LOADS OF EXPERIENCE WORKING IN SCHOOLS (Voluntary work is good) AND WORKING WITH CHILDREN - youth clubs, Guides, Scouts etc.

Good luck :D

p.s you get financial support at uni if you are hard up. You also get some extra (free) money for doing teacher training. An Open University degree might be the cheapest option.
