what are some good ideas for my photography portfolio?

I am a junior in high school and I need some ideas for my photography portfolio to admit to the colleges I'm applying to. Any ideas? I've already got a bit of a portfolio, I just need a little out-of-the-box thinking. Help?

Rather than a set of suggestions, I have a few questions for you. As you answer these, you may find that the subject matter comes to you.

1) What are you passionate about in photography? This will probably produce your best work.
2) Do the colleges give any guidelines about the type of work they look for?
3) What is the normal way and subject matter you shoot? - is it mostly portrait or landscape, wide angle or close up?
4) How can you change this norm for your next shoot? This could give an entirely new feel and dimension to your next set of work.
5) Which techniques have you read about that interest you but you have not played around with? Have you considered HDR, black and white instead of colour, using various filters, very long exposures, infra-red or UV?

Lastly, do you have a 'mentor' you can talk these things through with, someone more experienced in your college, or photo club. You could even try approaching one of the members of staff at one of the colleges you wish to apply for to ask for some tips - you never know!
