What should my photography portfolio look like for university?

I'm 17 and have applied for uni this September. I've got a A2 sized portfolio case, i was just wondering what kind of style of layout do uni's want? Is it just plain, none edited photographs in the plastic wallets, or do they want dark room techniques and maybe like a double page spread of final, mounted photography?

The best place to get your answer is from the university itself. Do they give detailed specifications?

If I were an admissions committee member, my primary concern would be with whether the work was presented in a manner that would allow me to evaluate your photographic skills. A4 would be sufficient for me. But you need to check with the university's requirements. If you come in with very large prints then you might be perceived as over-eager. Too small, not eager enough.

If I were you, I would concentrate on the prints themselves. Try to avoid stereotypical shots like sunsets, your pet dog, street signs, pictures of things reflected in puddles, and homeless people sleeping on the street. The committee will be looking at composition, exposure, and focus control. Regarding darkroom techniques, in this age? I doubt it, unless the school is still mired in the film age of photography. However, your question is valid: I would minimize digital post-processing techniques. Lastly, do not include any images that are flawed in some way or had to be "fixed" in Photoshop, no matter how much you love them.
