Photography Online Magazines

What are some good photography magazines?

Okay, so I really like photography and I am looking to get better at it so I thought maybe I could subscribe to a magazine. I checked out 'Popular Photography' from my local library and I didn't really like it because of all the adds. I live in America, so they couldn't be from the UK or somewhere like that. I was reading online that 'Outdoor Photographer' was a good one but it seems like it would be just about outdoor photography. I like all types of photography, especially action and animal portraits. What are some good ones for me?

Popular Photography is not a bad rag, but it does indeed have lots of advertising. But it does have some articles suitable for beginner/intermediate level photographers. Another thing you might consider is the PopPhoto website:

Most of the consumer magazines do have lots of ads. Outdoor Photographer is mostly about outdoors, yes. I have subscribed to OP for years. There is Shutterbug, highly thought of, and Rangefinder, which is mainly for wedding and portrait photography. American Photo is artsy, and not a lot of how-to articles.

The best way to improve might be getting a book or two on basic photography and composition, perhaps in addition to a magazine. Then look at good images where ever you find them. Photo.net is a good resource for both learning and inspiration.

Congratulations on wanting to grow your photography skill. Keep at it, and enjoy the journey!
