Photography Light Box Diy

How do I build a variable light source?

I recently saw a device at my friend's house that was a box with four lights at the ends of bendable wires. The lights were dimmable and the entire box had a plug for an outlet to avoid using batteries. If anyone knows the name of this device or even how to build one/instructions on a DIY website that would be terrific. This would be used for for macro/stock photography.

Buy 4 cheap clip-on lamps. Strip the plug heads off, and attach to a large rheostat. Ac power through rheostat to lamp heads... then you turn the dial to adjust light.

Look for a lamp dimmer switch at the local hardware store. Make sure you know the max wattage it can handle!

Even better, build it in two sections, left and right or top and bottom, so that two of the lamps are on one controller, and the other two are on a second controller. Ratio lighting has never been easier...
