How do I photograph shiny and tiny details?
I have a 5.0 megapixel digital camera and next to no knowledge of photography. Any help would be appreciated.. I'm trying to photograph metal keychains and pendants and retain the intricate details the have.
Pretty much what fotoace said (PS he gets picked a lot cos he knows what he's talking about lol!)
If you absolutely have to shoot with what you've got, I suggest making a light tent

Use anglepoise (desk lamps) to shine through the sides - this'll give you a nice soft 'wrap' of light. Use the macro setting on your camera (usually a 'flower' symbol) to get as close a focus as you can. Turn the flash off on your camera.
If you're using tungsten lightbulbs in your lamps and the image has a very yellowy cast, then switch the 'white balance' in your camera to tungsten. (The default setting is Auto & this may work ok without needing to change it).
