Artist's Statement Help?

Hi all,

Here's what I have thus far for my Artist's Statement. I feel like it definitely needs some more, but I'm at a loss. Help me make it better? All help is greatly appreciated...thanks!!!

As an artist using photography as my means of communication my ultimate goal is to show the viewer something they may have seen a hundred times, but never quite looked at. To this end I rarely stage photo shoots and instead take my camera with me when I do normal everyday activities, finding art in home improvement stores, local gardens and major cities. Vibrant colors often found in nature and small architectural details intrigue me.

I am an artist who was primarily self-taught by reading books and following the works of photographers I admire such as Scott Kelby,Joe McNally, Moose Petersen and Ansel Adams.

Kimberly,

Personally I'd punch up what you've written. It sounds a tad school essay-ish right now (to me...). Use more of an "active voice" (you can look up that term on Google) and less of a "passive voice". In other words, don't back in to what you want to say. Say it in a strong voice that projects confidence. Your interests and approach sound worth waving the flag about!

See what you think of this minor edited vers:

As a photographer I try to focus on the sights we see everyday - and therefore tend to ignore. But I interpret & communicate them in new & unique ways. To this end, I carry my camera with me everywhere I go, and rarely rely on studio-based shoots. I see photographic art opportunities all around - at home improvement stores, in local gardens and just about everywhere in major cities. The vibrant colors of nature and small architectural details & textures especially intrigue me.

I am a self-taught photographer who has been inspired by the works of photographers such as Scott Kelby, Joe McNally, Moose Petersen and Ansel Adams.

I think it's great that you mention some artists whose work you admire and whose approaches influence the style you're trying to adopt. Good luck!
