Basic Features of Digital Cameras
MEGA PIXELS.
The camera film was replaced by a digital sensor which in fact is a thick web of signals designed to absorb and measure the incoming light. The sensor preserves the information in a digital mode. The number of cells reflects the number of pixels. In standard cameras the sensors web is pre determined hence, the larger the number of pixels is the cells will be basically smaller. A small sensor will result in a less accurate picture. Thus a higher stated pixels number does not necessarily ensures a better quality picture and sometimes it is exactly the opposite.
Z00M
Zoom is the optical enlargement which can be achieved with the camera. The larger the number is' the more will enable us to focus on the farther objects. The zoom is represented by a pair of digits where the lower number indicates the maximum opening and the lower number shows the width spread angle.
IMAGE STABILIZER.
A device intended to control and ignore hands trembling during photography.
ISO SENSITIVITY.
The higher the sensitivity is it is easier to photograph in poor lighting conditions.
MANUAL CONTROL.
The ability to control the shutter and other parameters during exposure time as opposed to automatic built-in methods. Preferred generally by professional photographers who prefer to be in control in poor lighting conditions.
SCREEN SIZE
Most modern cameras are equipped with a screen rather than the old eyepiece. A higher resolution screen will enable us to determine how accurate will the picture be.
TYPES OF CAMERAS.
Digital cameras come in many shapes, prices and qualities. Different screen sizes and pixels. They are grouped as follows:
Basic cameras: usually medium sizes with small sized zooms and no image stabilizers.
Ultra compact cameras: meant to fit in a cell phone or in the pocket to be always handy.
DSLR CAMERAS : designed mainly for the professionals. A wide variety of possibilities in zooms, screens etc.
