Can't find a photography job in NYC, and have a BFA in photography. Need advice!?
I live in New York, went to art school, and got my BFA in photo. Two years later, and I'm still not working in my field. I'm working non creative work and I'm unhappy.
Every single job requires 5+years of experience. How can I get experience if no one will hire me. Internships only want fresh graduates. I get the "too old" internship rejection. I have a passion to be a photographer, but need the skills, and on the job experience to get the skills. College was a waste of time, and ill prepared me for the real workforce.
I am interested in editorial work, and photojournalism. The more time passes by, the more I don't remember my photo skills. Where can I get instruction without burning a hole in my pocket, before I forget everything?
I'm so lost , and I just want to do photography. Any advice?
You can try to get a job with a photographer you admire as an assistant. There is no better place than NYC to get an assisting position. That was the path I took and with perseverance and determination and some luck it worked out.
Good luck.
