how have computers affected art?
Question's
1a) How have computers affected and changed the art-world and art practices?
b) How have other technologies impacted upon photography and art in the 21st century?
Its for an assignment and i haven't been able to find any information on these questions, if you have any links or any information please tell me.
Thanks guys.
Just a hint: the computer has had a quantitative not a qualitative impact on the art world and art processes. Yes it is a new medium and new artworks are coming out for it, but much of it is indistinguishable from the work of say, Barbara Kruger who was an art director working with the old technologies before she became essentially a collagist, and a lot of modern computer and video stuff owes a DEEP debt to Nam June Paik.
So look up those two artists and you will begin to get some sense on where our art world and art practices came from, and there is one more thing to look at. In 1936 a Marxist named Walter Benjamin created an essay called "The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction". It prefigures a LOT of what has happened since and became VERY influential during the seventies. What it said remains true today:

This is all a hint. I'm really not arguing anything, but this is for an assignment and you really should be the one to write your paper yourself.
