HDR Photography

The full form of HDR is High Dynamic Range. Dynamic range in a photograph, in easy terms, means the contrast in a image. It is the comparison between the darkest and the lightest colour value. So a HDR photo is one which has a greater dynamic range than other standard photos (LDR or Low Dynamic Range).

The reason of applying High Dynamic Range Imaging (HDRI) in a image is to produce a photograph that is better in effects than a standard picture. HDR photography helps in generating those minute details of a sight which is not possible in condition of normal image. It mostly benefits to reduce the restrictions of the camera with which the image is shot. Contrary to the similar view, the reason of HDR image is not to produce any artistic pictures but to have photos that are best in quality.

The first step that is concerned in HDR image is choosing a good camera. It is not possible to get a HDR image with any digital camera. The method here is to take many photos of the same sight at different contrast levels. These photos are then merge to get a unique HDR photograph. So a HDR photo can be taken with any camera that has a manual shutter speed adjustment.

The next step includes selecting a proper sight to be photographed. It should be made sure that the sight has rich exposure. Scenes with low contrast cannot be used for HDR photography as the complete dynamic range is shot by the camera in one shot. Besides, looking for high dynamic range in a image, the sight must not have any moving objects.

After selecting the camera and the sight, the exposure in the camera has to be adjusted and then multiple clicks are taken putting the timer of the camera. These all shots are then merged to produce a HDR photo.

One of the most great help of HDR photography is that helps to capture scenes that have very high contrast level. It generates a image as it is and present an image that is very better in quality. A HDR photo has all the features that can be seen by naked eyes. Because of some of the restrictions of digital cameras, some features of the photographs taken are usually missing. However, applying a HDR system benefits in overcoming these limitations which is not possible otherwise.

Since the images are clicked at different exposure levels, every has utmost exposure. The finest of these shots are then merged. Hence, photos are clicked with as little noise as possible.

As is clear, having high quality photos is not difficult with HDR photography. You simply require the right kind of camera and the creativity to shot that perfect image. There are a numerous HDR softwares available today (like HDR Darkroom etc.) that makes this hassle free job. This system benefits to click the shots with such accuracy and appropriation that they leave a lasting impression in the mind of the viewers of the photo.
