I just got this new dSLR camera for christmas, and I was wondering about help books.?
It's a Panasonic Lumix G1 and I like it a lot (so far). I originally asked for a Nikon for christmas and my parents got me this camera instead, but they also got the "Digital SLR Photography All-In-One for Dummies" book. It's a helpful book, but I'm noticing that a LOT of the features he spends time talking about are not on my camera. Is there a different book (besides the manual) that anyone out there could think of that would be slightly more helpful?
Also: Where can you buy lenses for panasonic cameras? Every store I've seen lenses in, they're too big or a Cannon lens.
Your camera is a member of a new breed called micro-four-thirds. It's not technically an SLR because it has an electronic viewfinder instead of an optical viewfinder based on a hinged mirror. However, a quick look at the specs indicates that it has every feature that an SLR has -- ranging from full auto mode, with an impressive list of picture styles, to full manual. So I'm not sure what features the author is talking about that are not on your camera. I think perhaps you need to read the manual with your camera in hand and do some experimental shooting.
The sensor size of your camera is somewhat smaller than that of an SLR, but not that much. It's much larger than what you'd get in a point-and-shoot. In my view, you should be happy to have this camera at this stage of your interest in photography. You can get great shots with it. The major limiting factor is your ability.
