The Best Beaches Southern England Has To Offer

The UK’s South Coast region is one of the most popular destinations with visiting tourists. There is a good variety of coastline in this area, from bustling seaside resorts to quieter coves. Most of the coastline is easily accessible and there are lots of places to enjoy a weekend getaway or even a longer holiday.

Bournemouth is one of the UK’s oldest and best loved seaside locations. It can be very busy in the summer but this destination has been a firm family favorite for decades. Established in the early 19th Century as a seaside resort Bournemouth has two old-fashioned piers and all the seafront buildings reflect it’s Victorian history. There is lots to see and do here, as you would expect from an established seaside town, from fairgrounds to ornamental gardens and of course the wonderfully long stretch of beach.

Often described as the sister town to Bournemouth; the resort of Poole has a long beach that stretches all the way to Bournemouth. This popular resort is well known to those who enjoy their water sports and people come here to enjoy sailing, water skiing, windsurfing and other water based activities. Poole is also home to a traditional seaside resort with promenade, fairgrounds, beach huts and eateries all available to the visitor.

Directly to the left of Poole is Swanage, which is a small picturesque beach that is surrounded by cliffs and hills. The beach is a great place for swimmers and people who like to participate in water-sports. Swanage itself is a small town with the usual seafront amusements on offer.

Brighton is one of the trendiest resorts to visit in the south coast region and is sometimes referred to as ‘London by the Sea.’ A busy university city and a haven for the fashionable and the young, Brighton is the place to be if you want to combine the beach with nightlife or shopping. With a long beach, promenade and pier to enjoy during the day and plenty of bars clubs and restaurants open at night Brighton has the perfect combination of entertainment for both night and day.

Lulworth Cove in Dorset is an unspoiled UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is impossible not to admire the perfectly formed horseshoe cove here. Not a traditional sandy beach or seaside resort this is a beach to visit if you enjoy walking and picturesque scenery. The cove is set amongst cliffs so there is a good walk down to the beach, which is pebbly and not suitable for swimmers.
