Keep in mind that the contest is for a travel company that wants the best photos to advertise the "experience" of traveling with their company.
Photography contests are a bit of a crap shoot. You never know what their criteria really is even if they spell it out.
These aren't good for the most part. A typical "tourist" shot won't cut it — specifically those quickly posed shots of your friend taken in front of some random foreign location. There are a couple of decent location shots including a couple in HDR but if they want the "experience" of travelling than those might be too cold.
My clear favorites are from neonbird. They are of tourists in a location, but there is a real attempt to do something unique:
Top Five:
5) 3.5cm - rainy day but beautiful; may not inspire much travel though
4) 1665 steps - great shot with personality. The only trouble is you dont automatically know where they are without reading. Might not make the final cut
3) 9 Roads - Great play with a cell phone and long exposure
2) 10,000 Candles - quirky and fun
1) 665 years: Notre Dame reflection in the tourist's sunglasses; WINNER
