Online School Helps Jump-Start Online Telecommunication Degrees

It’s one of the most pervasive professions in the country. Many times you don’t realize it, like Online Databases Degrees, is having an effect on the mass public, but it already has whenever you buy a can of soda or slow down at a stop sign. This is the world of the graphic designer.

A graphic designer is a form of commercial artist who plans and executes visual concepts to communicate one kind of message or another. Their work can be seen anywhere from a bus stop, to a graphic poster or when signing onto a favorite social network. They create the layout and design of print media, displays, packaging, logos and signage systems—aka environmental graphics—for business and government.

At one time, the graphic designer worked much like a traditional artist, leaning over a drawing easel with pen, pencils, magic marker and lots of paper. As with just about everything, including Online Information Systems Degrees, over the last two decades, the position was completely transformed by the computer. These days, a designer needs to know a number of graphic software as much as the t-square and triangle.

While it’s not uncommon for new graphic artists to pick up their first—usually freelance—assignment with one to two years of school, recruiters tend to prefer personnel with a full Bachelor’s of Arts degree. What sells a hiring authority on one person over another these days is really a well-designed professional portfolio displaying the best work the artist has already worked on…and sold. This is also going through its share of change as the bound portfolio is now often being replaced by a graphic presentation disk. This is due to much of the latest work now being done on the web and has some for of animation in it.

Academically, the country is generously populated with a number of accredited on campus and online colleges out there. A student’s course load should include such essentials as the study of fine and commercial art, printing and other production techniques, some basics on computer animation and designing for the Internet. If anything, knowledge of the latest software packages is something absolutely essential. From there, a graphic artist should round out their education with some good liberal arts and business courses, all toward Online Computer Security Degrees as well.

These days a good designer also has subscriptions to the latest graphic publications and web sites. They need to do so to stay on top of the constantly changing trends. The top designers all know what’s hot today is quickly forgotten tomorrow, and these sources are a great way to stay on top.

Like most of the arts, this is not an easy field to break in to. According to the Bureau, there are over 286,000 graphic artists in the U.S. as of 2008. Growth in the field is about 13% (slightly above the national average) between now and 2018. This is due mainly to the need for designers in the World Wide Web. On the other hand, competition is extremely keen.

Still, if one has the talent and fortitude to stick it out, the rewards can be worth it. The average designer, working at a solid design or advertising studio, can make in the low $40,000 salary range while the top ones can go into the hundreds of thousands. At the same time, it’s a job that brings about an incredible amount of job satisfaction. After all, who wouldn’t want to say they were responsible for the design of the Campbell soup can or the Apple or IBM logo?
