How to sell my photography?
Hey i'm Holly, I'm 18, completely broke, and recently lost my job due to cut-backs. I was reading this article a while back about this young girl who started making website designs or templates and selling them online. She became a millionaire within a year. Then there is also that author that was only about 15 or 16 who wrote that book called "The Outsiders" There probably pretty well off now too.
All this said, I am so determined to get my photography out there. I was at an art fair recently and say a photograph blown up to a huge size and put on a portrait and it was selling for $500. Then I thought to myself, "my stuff is just as good as that". I don't know how to get started though. there's no one around to guide me in the right direction. I'm extremely weary of putting it online because then anyone could just copy and paste it.
Any advice/ direction? thanks
how do I find a sponsor
As another answer said, just watermark your name or something over the image if you put it online.
I know that when I see a picture with text going across it, I don't even touch it. BUT, for selling purposes, people will still be able to see the photo.
You can also simply put your name on the bottom which could also deter people from stealing the image... but at the same time, it will put your name out there IF they do copy and paste it for personal use.
Also,
Try deviantart.com.
I know that there is a shop on there, but I'm not sure how it works...nor am I sure about who gets the money! But, its something to check into.
Go to local art shows/ fairs and even consider getting a one day permit and setting up a little table or stand, and sell your photos in a busy, tourist filled city.
Try asking other photographers in your area what they did when starting out. Some other people can be great resources, and its also great networking.
Best of Luck!
