What are good settings on a Nikon d70 for wedding photography?
I have a Nikon d70, and im an amateur hobbyist photographer. I am going to a friends wedding and would love to get some good practice shots at her wedding. I have the Nikkor 18-70mm lens and i only have the internal flash. I would appreciate if anyone would be willing to give me good tips on which settings i should use to shoot her wedding (besides auto, of course). Wedding is at 1pm on a sunny day, inside a church and then reception is outside immediately following the wedding. Any tips are greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!
'wedding is at 1pm on a sunny day'. Leaving aside for a moment the impossibility of seeing into the future, you should consider the unfortunate fact that there are no 'ideal' settings for a wedding or any other event. Exposure settings don't work like that. They are dependent upon the lighting conditions at the moment of pressing the shutter. If you don't know enough about exposure and the inter-relation between aperture, ISO and shutter speed, or the relationship between focal length, aperture and depth of field to feel confident about using anything other than Auto, then you will be on a very steep learning curve, unless the wedding is at least a couple of months away. You have the choice between immersing yourself in a few tutorials on exposure, lighting and so on, and getting as much practice as possible between now and the happy event; or accepting that you are better off using your dSLR as an expensive point-and-shoot. Which is what you've been doing up till now, judging by your question.
