Helpful tips for night photography? [black/white film]?
For my photo class [at my highschool] my next assignment, which I have to shoot this weekend, is night photography. The teacher lent me a strobe, and I'm pretty sure I can figure the whole concept out.. but any helpful tips would be appreciated, or ideas of things I can photography. I also have my D90 that I can test the shots out before hand. I will be in NYC a day this week also, so I maybe able to get some shots then.

Night photography is easy if you set your white balance first. Think of what you will see the most of where ever you are... it's either going to be Mercury Vapor or Incandescent lighting so what you want to do with your D90 is to meter off a white wall (digitals don't use gray cards) then practice with a few exposures.
The best way with a D90 Nikon is to choose your aperture and let the camera select the exposure / shutter speed for that aperture.
You WILL want to use a tripod for stability.
If you are in NYC... a 2 minute exposure down a busy street with a wide angle lens at about f/16 should give you cool tailight trails and if you pop your strobe a few times in the crowds... you will have ghostly (translucent) people too.
