Tips of night photography?
Whats settings should i use for capturing night sky shots of the stars?
I know more than likely a wide angle shot maybe 1600 ISO with a wide aperture?
tripod of course and remote shutter.. anything else?
Nope.
Leave your iso at 100 or else you'll not be able to tell the difference between the sensor noise and the actual stars.
Use a tripod, lock your mirror if you can (when the mirror flips inside your camera, it causes a bit of vibration that can cause motion blur but most DSLR's can leave the mirror in the locked position), manually focus, use a delay on your shutter or a remote trigger (to remove camera shake caused by you touching the camera to use the shutter) and set for a loooong exposure. Start at 5 seconds and keep increasing it until you get the effect you want. Most DSLRs can go up to 30 seconds and then BULB. Bulb just means it stays open as long as you hold the trigger down but that's not very practical unless you have a cable release since your hands might move the camera during the exposure.
