Beginner Photography Projects for Indoors?

I just got my dslr. I am taking up photography as a new hobby and I want to learn as much as I can. Due to the weather (and that I have a 2 year old son) I will be stuch indoors for the next few days. I would like to try some projects while i am indoors. I have already tried the Candle Light Project - that turned out well... I also tried the homemade bokeh lens project but that did not work for me. I am always shooting pics of my son and my dogs, but Im looking for something different. Any homemade things are good, or simple projects, fun projects, etc.... Id like to try. Any suggestions or links?? Thanks!! Also since I am new to a DSLR, I dont really know how to use it, like I dont know anything about "camera language" like how to use the settings, so any help with that would also be great! thanks.

I have one that incorporates writing and some thought as well.

Pick a room, lets say your kitchen for example. If you were supposed to document your kitchen, what would you photograph--what are the most important objects of a kitchen?

Next, how would you portray each object? The oven could have a warm fierce look, with a hard focus, and the sink could be the opposite. The mop could be portrayed as elegant etc. Write down "moods" for each of the objects, and how you would portray them with a photograph.

This is pretty fun, and it really helps you with concepts. These exercises will pay off quite a bit when it comes to how you want to document an event/person/place.

Good luck!
