Photography and Art--- Writing about the Generalization of the Photographic Medium
Nowadays, due to the generalization of photographing skills, equipment and printing, photography gradually gains the general spirit. Because the public take participate in the trend of producing images
, the previous photographing concepts and position have been challenged and overturned. The so-called photographic art we are discussing is not the traditional one. Traditional photography is mainly focus on landscape, characters and it pays particular attention to the photographing skill, light and so on. However, this type that just pays attention to the form of it that has been challenged since the emergency of modern art and local art.
Looking at the history of contemporary art since 1960, we may find that in addition to the art of painting, sculpture, many arts are presented by photography, such as performing art, artistic events and activities. If there was no photography, the acts would be disappeared undoubtedly. Photography is originally derived from art and then comes back to art in the contemporary era, which provides some kind of proof for "art" by photographing.
Contemporary art is the pursuit of the artist's life experience with the concept of the presence of reflection: when the images were used as a cloak for the other arts, like continue writing the history of contemporary art, the history would list contemporary art and traditional one together even though they are different from each other; Similarly, today, some things which are not photography will be written in the history of photography for using the photographic medium. It is just for the extension of photographing history. Otherwise, the French philosopher Bart would not appear and Baudrillard would not feel ashamed to talk about it.
Today, photography is no longer just photography, but also a media means of expressing ideas, behaviors and concepts. It becomes a modern one which is no longer being understood in a traditional way. Not only artists in photographing field do the researches and comments, the contemporary art historians, art theorists, philosophers and critics of the study and comment are also doing that. But their focus is not from the technical aspect of photography but from the historical, cultural, social and political aspects.
The present art often does not regard itself as art, but wants to break the boundaries of art into different areas and ideas which makes it become different gradually. As a contemporary art, it should constantly reflect itself and the medium is only a means and photographing is not its purpose. Not everyone can become a photographer. We need to have our own understandings and style. Once I got a camera,I took many pictures. Though I am not talented in photographing, I enjoy a lot of fun from that. I know that I get my own understanding of photographing.
