Photography, advice needed on website. Honest.?
Hi....
I was looking to get advice and/or feedback on a site I just published that allows creative people to build and manage their own portfolios online..... I have started the price off at $3.99 per month which I am now tempted to cut in half and/or offer the service for free all together.
I am really needing some feedback/advice as to how I could make the site better and/or more useful... I would be happy to give free accounts to anyone interested and/or willing to take a few minutes to check it out and offer some honest feedback...... Is the idea attractive? Does it need more features? Is it a bad idea all together?
Advice and constructive feedback very appreciated..... I can also be contacted directly at tommy@zoobuzzmedia.com
The website: http://www.portfoliopocket.com
Thankyou much!!
Tommy
I like your website, and I like the idea. It's clean and smooth, and I like that one can choose the crop of their thumbnails - very clever. Although I think there is no shortage of such ideas, having more options is a good thing. About your subscription price - I think it's a bit high, compared to other websites like flickr and deviantArt, which not only serve as portfolios (like yours), but also have some user customizations and built-in communities. They offer subscriptions for an annual price of around $30. But both, along with others still have one major flaw - they are all the same, with little means of individual profiles differentiating themselves from others. I'd say there is a big demand from photographers to have a cheaper means of having an online portfolio, yet offer the same level of personalization, and customization found with hiring out a web designer to create their websites from the ground up. And if you could offer that, along with ease of use, your price can be well justified. But while websites like these are great for amateurs and artists who enjoy what they do, serious working photographers and designers will opt to have their websites built from the ground up. (that's my opinion)
I think the better idea - and I'm still waiting - is a means for photographers to sell prints and make more profit. There are enough websites, in my opinion, which offer what yours does. As an amateur photographer, I see no need to stop using flickr as a means to show off my work. I can use it for free, it's easy to use, and gives me access to a community of peers from which I can learn and grow as an amateur photographer. If I were a pro, I'd enjoy having a personalized website over a profile page that looks like everyone else's.
That's not to say I don't like your website. I think I'll keep it in my favs list and check it out a bit more.
