how to plan a wedding long distance?

i am most likely moving with my fiance to texas in january (we both currently live in the chicago area) and we plan on getting married here in the spring because thats where our friends and my family are. we're moving down there before we get married so we can get jobs and an apartment situated.
my question is, how do i plan a wedding here, from allllllllllllllllllll the way over there?
the wedding i had been planning/thinking of is a primarily DIY type deal. with our friends helping out with food, photography, music, having my dress made, we won't be having any vendors.
so how does this work?

we also will be setting aside time before the wedding actually takes place to come back up here and finalize everything. but we're not really sure how much time we'll need to get everything set. 2 weeks? 3 weeks?

i feel like i'm flying blind. how does this all work?

Minus the DIY stuff, I'm in the same boat. I'm planning a wedding in Massachusetts from Oregon.

My advice, rely on those friends and your family who are still in the area of your wedding to take care of logistics while you move and get settled. Try and talk with people at least once a week on video chat to keep up to speed.
