Study In London - Finance Worries?

Hey
I'm applying to study a Foundation in Styling and Photography at the London College of Fashion in Sep 2009.
I'm 17, have a good job (earn close to £500 a month), and I'm completing a BTEC National Diploma in Art & Design.

What are my chances of getting in?

I'm awful with money, and haven't saved a penny yet (oops!).
I'm in a single-parent family (parent doesn't earn much at all.... definitely below the average), living in an ex-council house in N.Ireland. I don't know if I can afford to follow my dream and go to the best fashion college in the UK.

What sort of loan would I be able to get? Any other money sources? How do I find accommodation? (Zone 1 or 2 ideally)

It's really starting to upset me, I have no parental support, Mum thinks my ideas are ridiculous.... She keeps claiming I will never afford it, and I shouldn't bother....

PLEASE HELP!!!

As well as your student loan, which you only start to repay once you have graduated and are earning £15,000+ per annum, since you come from a low income family it sounds like you'd be eligible for a maintenance grant. They're available for those from low income families and you don't have to pay them back, check out the unis website for finance details on this as amounts vary between unis.
Universities also sometimes have scholarships or grants available for some students doing some courses so you should check that out in the university prospectus to see if anything applies to you.
You could also get a part time job as a waitress where you'll also get tips, or in a shop or bar if you find your student loan isn't stretching far enough.
And the university will help you find accommodation. I would recommend living in the university accommodation for the first year (cheaper and easier to make friends), this will be the easiest way to get accommodation as the uni will just give you forms to fill in and they'll allocate you a room.

Why not open a savings account if you are awful at saving? Just put in what you can spare each month (even £10 each month will help but obviously put more in if you can). You won't earn much interest in a year but its good if you are rubbish at saving because you can't take money out whenever you like, a lot of them only allow one withdrawal a year.
