Easter Photography Props

easter photography props
Does anyone know how to make a large easter egg for a photography prop (i.e. for babies/toddlers to sit in)?

I have looked on the internet and the props cost anywhere from $175-$350. I am trying to figure out a way to make one myself. If you have an ideas, suggestions, products, etc to help me out I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you!

Andy is right about papier mache. it is very sturdy & cheap. you can use the easier & quicker technique of layering newspaper strips using diluted PVA glue [at least 3-4 layers] if it is to keep its shape & take the weight of a baby.

if you can get hold of any old bean-bag, you can use that too, after painting or dying it the right color.

you could use the bean-bag as a mold for the egg. stuff the bag completely with anything [just temporary]. cover it all over with plastic [eg an old shower curtain] so that the bean bag doesn't get spoiled. also add any contours, etc. that you think are needed to give it the exact shape of an egg. you can do this with scrunched up newspaper taped firmly.
when you are completely satisfied with the shape, start covering it with layers of newspaper strips using diluted PVA glue [1:1 glue & water]. leave the area where the child will sit uncovered. you can cover in the shape of a cracked egg [with jagged edges] or a smooth oval, etc.... Allow to dry completely - may be a couple of days.
rememeber to have at least 3-4 layers of the newspaper strips.
then "demold" - remove the bean bag stuffing, the bean bag, & the curtain. Voila! your egg is ready. paint & embellish as desired.
place yellow cushions inside for the baby.

you can check out www.artattack.co.uk for details on papier mache technique - click on relevant project icons to get the instructions along with detailed pictures.

hope this helps
all the very best & have fun :-) )
