Does this style of photography have a specific name?
It seems like more and more 'young people' are getting interested in photography, with the digital age and all of that, and because they don't have that much to work with, they take pictures of regular objects: pencils, dolls, erasers, shoes, nailpolish, friends, they find around the house. They're very artsy pictures, often over-edited to look 'trippy' (I'm seeing a lot of tungsten blue, violet and pink here) and long exposure is 'win'.
They're not necessarily all macro shots, but this is just to get the gist of it.
Is there a name for this style?
The first two could loosely be called "still life shots," but that's stretching the term. The third and fourth are macro shots but the third is definitely "different" subject-matter. All seem to be random bits of reality with no particular context. They're about challenging traditional ideas of subject-matter, composition and the very intentions of photography.
I have to disagree that young photographers "don't have that much to work with." They have energetic young friends who are usually willing to participate in photographic projects with no worries about their dignity. That's a resource any photographer would love.
