how do i determine what wattage lights to use in my home photography studio? help please.?

i am using a digital camera and opening my own studio in my home. have recently built a room onto my house for this and have also painted it according to size and depth of room. my problem now is trying to get info on what the watts of my flash kits should be.
the photography area is 15x20 if this helps any and will be used for shooting portraits up to large groups.

Well you had me fooled for a second. Usually "hot" or continuous lights used for studio work are 250 Watt, 500 Watt or 1000 (or 1K) Watt lamps. It matters not, the room size, because you just have to light the subject.

Flash Kits are a whole different matter and MUCH more expensive. Unless you are shooting moving subjects (like dancers or gymnasts) you don't need to spend the money.

Again, it is a matter of how close to the subject you place the lights.

My studio has a wall that is half black and half white. The other walls are painted in bright colours (Violet, Orange, Yellow) and I have a couple of background stands I use when I need to shoot chroma key or other "sexy" background
