nikon d5000 vs. canon rebel xsi?
i'm a newbie entering the daunting world of dslr and this will be my first dslr camera. I'm torn between the nikon d5000 and the rebel xsi. I feel slightly biased toward the d5000 but the cost is a bit out of my range whereas the rebel is more in a better range. Also I was thinking about purchasing the 50mm f1.8 lens if i purchase the canon which makes me biased towards that as well. If i buy the nikon 5000 will i have to purchase a lens with af or not? After reading recent yahoo answers it seems that most are vying for the nikon 5000.. the kind of photography that i would like to do is night photography or portrait not really landscape or sports.. more of an urban flare.. so i have to know.. canon xsi or nikon d5000??
Personally, if you think the D5000's price is restricting, I see no reason why you should go for it, especially when it means you have no money left to purchase an additional lens. Sure, it may offer somewhat better autofocus and image quality, but the difference probably wouldnt concern most first-time dslr users. Buying a better lens for a cheaper camera will always work better than getting an expensive camera just to use crappy lenses on it.
If you still decide to go for the D5000, only lenses with the "AFS" prefix will autofocus with the camera. If you go for third party lenses, you will need to look in the specs and see if it says it has a "built-in af motor" or something along those lines.
