buy stock photography cd
legal advise about stolen photo?

I bought a cd of stock photography off ebay a few years ago. I ended up using a photo off it on my website. I've had the photo on my site for two years. Last week I get an e-mail from a photographer in the UK stating that I'm using her photo without permission and wants reimbursement. I looked into it and indeed it appears to be her work. She claims she never sold it to a stock photography company either.

I explained the situation and took the photo off my site. She is insisting I send her money or she will take legal action.

What should I do, am I liable for this?

She's in the UK. I doubt there is much she could do to force prosecution short of drugging you and shipping you over seas. It sounded like a scam. Double check the references on the authenticity of the photo. It is unlikely that the photo is copy right protected. You could also refer her to the seller of the photo as they would technically be liable for the claims and damages of the inquiring part if her claims are true. I doubt you could be held liable providing you have proof of the sale and the sellers claims.
