Black and White Nature Photography - Perfect Composition Tips
Just like any other type of picture , black and white nature photography communicates with the viewer. Good nature photos will communicate well and put your subjects in the light you prefer . Composition is extremely important if you want to get a good result . Here's a look at some of the most important basic fine art nature photography techniques , and ways to use them. You need to remember - amateurs can get a good photo occasionally, but it takes practice to do it on purpose !
When it comes to photography, composition is talking about the arrangement of visual elements . This is done using many elements, such as tone, perspective, line, color, lighting, and depth. Although when taking a photo it's tough to remember them all , it's possible to simplify this issue . Just look through the camera viewfinder and ask yourself a few questions . What's the photo's message , and what's the best way to communicate it ? If these questions can be answered , the other factors simply fall in line.
Black and white nature photography is just more successful when you have a clear message . This doesn't mean all the photos you take an allegory or even a statement politically. Usually the messages are quite simple , and difficult to express . But a message is found in good photos. You need to take a few minutes to think.
Keep it simple when you are composing, especially if fine art nature photography is new to you. Don't use a photo to showcase many subjects - just go with one. Many great photographers actually try to see what they can get rid of and still keep a good composition . Fine tune things through your viewfinder until you've removed as many distractions as possible .
Patience is key here . You won't get good composition in an instant, though experienced photographers may make it look like it is . Up to ten minutes can be taken to compose some of these photos . Although fast point and shoot is needed in some photography , as much as the subject allows, you need to slow down.
No part of the scene should be ignored . Fill the frame with interesting, on-message areas . Get closer or zoom in to keep it from being too small . Don't forget about the verticals, either - too many people only go with horizontal shots. Mountains and trees are both important! Lines are everywhere - recognize them to improve photos, instead of letting them interfere .
Although great black and white nature photography may take practice , you'll be surprised what a little care can do to improve your photos . Check it out yourself !
