basic photography vocabulary
Beginner in film-making?

I'm 15, been into photography for a little bit and I would like to extend into videography. I hope mainly to shoot indie film and short films for music. As a side note, I've heard a lot of people say to start out with a basic consumer camcorder but I know that's not something I want. I want to have a little bit of a learning curve, that way I can actually learn. I also would like to have the benefits of the higher quality and extra control that a regular handycam couldn't provide. I also know that "it's not about the camera, but the person holding it"... I've been reading up and watching videos about techniques, gear, and vocabulary associated with film and am building a basic knowledge of the art. Anyway, right now it's just a matter of where to start. Any suggestions for what type of camera, supplies, or anything else I'll need to start will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

A very solid tripod can be very important. A board that you can slide on wheels can also be helpful (like a dolly). Nowadays, cameras are just so fantastic that it doesn't matter what kind of video camera you get. If you think it's decent enough, I'm sure it'll be fine. Finally, put everything you make onto YouTube. It's a great way to start, and I hear all the time of people that get discovered through YouTube. Way to start at 15! Good Luck
