help for a beginner photographer.?
so i'm thinking of buying a camera because i'm getting pretty interested in photography and such and such. but,
a) i have no idea what camera to buy.
b) i have a limited budget of about £150-£200 (i'm asking for one for my birthday)
c) i don't know all the technical terms of a camera and stuff...
so i'm what you'd call a VERY basic beginner photographer.
would anyone care to explain the basics and what camera you'd suggest? thanks!
This will sound odd to you I know, but the best help I can give you is to tell you to stay away from digital cameras. To really be able to "get into" photography, you are going to need a camera that offers full adjustability, and with preferably a fast lens. With digital, that means a DSLR and something other than the cheap kit lens. This is going to cost several hundred dollars. But also, while digital CAN be a good learning tool, most people do not use it as such. They just put the camera in Auto and snap away like a monkey with no clue about what they are doing. More than half their photos are worthy only of a trash can, but since there is not cost involved, they just keep going with their bad habits. A lower cost digital point and shoot camera will not allow you to learn to use a camera, because it is designed with no adjustment capability. It is made for people who do not WANT to learn anything and are happy with common snap shots.
On the other hand, you can TRULY LEARN photography with a SLR FILM 35mm camera. These can be bought used all day long for very reasonable prices, but here is one that is new for only $160, which is only about 100 pounds.

Only your skill and knowledge limit you with this, at least at first. You can always move up to something "better" later, but a camera such as this will allow you to put into practice the techniques of proper photography.
Once you have a camera, some good resources to study would be these:
